You may have heard of CBT. Maybe someone has recommended CBT, and you're not sure if it's for you. CBT stands for Cognitive Behavior Therapy. It is a therapeutic approach that helps you understand how your thoughts and behaviors influence how you feel. Here's what you need to know:
CBT is considered the "gold standard" treatment for mental health issues
It's an evidence based treatment (lots of studies show it works!)
CBT is skills based; you learn how to become your own therapist for life
CBT can be fun!
It has better effectiveness rates than medication alone
CBT is collaborative (we work as a team)
It is individualized; designed to meet your needs
Why does certification matter?
Seeing a certified CBT therapist means you are getting the real deal. Although many therapists say they use CBT, very few are certified in this therapy. I've completed hours of course work and direct supervision to earn my certification in CBT. I'm certified with the Beck Institute, which was founded by Dr. Aaron Beck, the originator of Cognitive Behavior Therapy.
